The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, an organisaton synonymous with motorsport success at the highest level, wanted to give their guests a glimpse into what it takes to win two back-to-back World Championships while their team partner Epson were looking to showcase their ground-breaking Augmented Reality glasses, the Moverio BT-300s. Tasked with achieving both goals in one project, vStream set out to create a world’s first: an Augmented Reality Garage Tour that VIP guests would experience during race weekends.
vStream came up with a narrative that reflected how the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Tea, works as a single unit. Our technical team wrote the software that transformed the Moverios into a new creative platform through which to tell this story. The fusion of the creative and the technical resulted in a truly unique experience as the guests’ view of the busy Mercedes garage is seamlessly augmented with content including driver profiles and slow motion pit stops to engine animations and a live twitter feed.
Premiering at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix, guests were treated to an Augmented Reality tour that not only gave them a greater insight into the workings of the team but also a glimpse into the future of interactive tours. The finished experience successfully leverages vStream’s expertise in everything from intuitive UI design to state of the art AR animation and now accompanies the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team as they travel across the globe.
